Today is Apollo’s last day.

When we opened Apollo in April 2017, I had an idea of creating a place that could bring together the art world and the rest of Copenhagen. A place where food, wine, music, art, design and people could exist together. Where you might come for lunch and end up staying until late. Where you could meet someone you had never met before and leave with a new friend.

I used to think of Apollo as a bumblebee. In my mind, it shouldn’t really have been able to fly. But somehow, through a combination of desire, energy and a fair amount of creative chaos, it did.

And it kept flying for almost ten years.

Looking back, I realise how much of my life has happened here. The friendships, the parties, the difficult days, the wonderful dinners, the people who came and went, the people who stayed. The artists, the cooks, the waiters, the musicians, the neighbours and all the beautiful strangers who became part of our little world.

Apollo was never just mine. It belonged to everyone who gave something of themselves to it.

I am enormously proud of what we created together. And deeply grateful to everyone who worked here, visited us, danced with us, ate with us and helped make Apollo what it became.

There is something very beautiful about a place having a life of its own. And perhaps also something beautiful about knowing when to say goodbye.

Thank you, Apollo.
