Peggy and David Rockefeller bought this Upper East Side townhouse in 1948 and filled it with art and English antiques over the decades that followed. Now home to a new owner, it has been reimagined by ELLE Decor A-List designer Joe Nahem of @foxnahem. The previous owners had already renovated the house with @stevenharrisarchitects and decorated it with @milesredd, with garden by @harrisongreennyc. For its current owner, Nahem furnished the rooms with midcentury pieces, custom lighting, and artworks by Magritte, de Kooning, and Kusama. Historic details, including the oak-paneled living room and the Rockefellers’ antique dining room wallpaper, remain. For our latest issue, @stephen_wallis traces the house’s history and takes us inside its latest transformation at the link in our bio.
