A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was killed in a shooting in the east valley after police responded to a report of an armed, intoxicated person at a business. LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill said "Officers made contact with the suspect and a gun battle ensued". 30-year-old Officer Austin Abdelnabi was shot and taken to a hospital, where Officer Abdelnabi died from the injuries. This is LVMPD's 9th officer-involved shooting within the jurisdiction for the year. Police are expected to provide further information within 72 hours. I'd like to keep my thoughts and prayers with the Last Vegas Metropolitan police department as they go through this difficult time.
