NAFDAC Seizes Counterfeit Alc%holic Packaging Materials Worth Over ₦200 Million In Aba, Abia State The National Agency for Food and Dr¥g Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit packaging materials worth over ₦200 million and sealed five shops at Old Court Road Market in Aba, Abia State, over suspected production and supply of packaging materials for f@ke alc%h%lic beverages and other products. The operation, conducted by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate following credible intelligence, uncovered counterfeit labels, corks and packaging materials bearing brands including Jameson, Glenfiddich, Four Cousins, Lord’s Dry Gin, Imperial Blue, Goya Oil, Chelsea, Squadron and Seaman’s Aromatic Schnapps. A NAFDAC official described the discovery as alarming, saying some materials were so sophisticated that even original brand owners might struggle to distinguish them from genuine products. The official also alleged that packaging materials for sachet alc%h%l, which has been banned, were still being produced and concealed in the market. NAFDAC said its operatives encountered threats and resistance from traders during the raid, making the evacuation of the materials challenging. The owners of the five shops were absent, and the premises were placed on hold to prevent interference with materials remaining inside. The agency said the Market Union Chairman pledged to help secure the premises and ensure the shop owners were identified and presented to NAFDAC.
