We’re excited to announce that we’re opening a wine shop and bar in Sneinton Market, Nottingham: Subterranean Wines. It’s a collaboration between the people behind Essen General Store and Wright’s Wines, inspired by the caves à manger we love to visit in France. Subterranean Wines will specialise in the producers imported by Wright’s, and will pour wines on tap to drink in and take away, all bottled on site. We will have a large wall of wine where everything will be available to drink in too.

You’ll be able to get something to eat alongside your glass of wine: Essen will select cheese, charcuterie and quality tinned fish from their brilliant suppliers, as well as bread baked very locally of course.

We are currently looking for full and part-time staff. An interest in natural wines is essential, and hospitality experience is preferred. If you think you could be a good fit, please send an email to joel@wrightswine.co.uk

I’m grown up!!! I have grandchildren now, and somehow they keep reminding me that growing older doesn’t mean growing tired of wonder.

They pull me back into the little things: laughing until my stomach hurts, asking questions, making a mess, finding joy right in the middle of an ordinary day. They remind me that life is still happening, still beautiful, still full of firsts.

The Brewers sweeping the $339 million Dodgers to reach their first World Series in 44 years is exactly why I love baseball. 😭

Kyle Tucker being the only player to show up this October for the Dodgers really is funny, I gotta admit.

The Los Angeles Dodgers spent an unbelievable amount of money building one of the most talented rosters in baseball, just to get swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. With all that superstar talent and massive payroll, you would expect Los Angeles to dominate a team operating with significantly fewer financial resources. Instead, Milwaukee showed that having the most expensive roster doesn’t automatically make you the better baseball team.

What makes this even more embarrassing for the Dodgers is how much money they have invested in winning championships. They have stars all over their lineup, expensive contracts, and seemingly every advantage a franchise could ask for. Meanwhile, the Brewers proved that chemistry, execution, and playing as a complete team can overcome a roster loaded with expensive superstars.

This is exactly why baseball is so unpredictable. You can spend hundreds of millions of dollars putting together what looks like an unbeatable roster, but none of that matters when the games actually begin. The Brewers made a massive statement by sweeping a Dodgers team that was supposed to have every advantage. Los Angeles might have won the payroll battle, but Milwaukee won where it actually mattered.
