This town was once known as Queenstown, which was the Titanic’s final port of call before beginning its journey across the Atlantic on April 11, 1912.
At this exact place, 123 passengers boarded the Titanic, while their loved ones gathered to send them off on their journey and say goodbye. For most of those passengers, it would be the last time they ever saw Ireland.
Just three days after leaving the port, during the night of April 14, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sunk.
Today, standing here at the remnants of Titanic Pier, you can look across the same harbor where those final farewells were exchanged. It’s a deeply emotional experience knowing that what began as a dream come true for so many ended in such tragedy.
You can see the remnants of the original pier by going to the restaurant behind the Titanic Experience. Highly recommend a stop here in Cobh on your trip to Ireland!
