On our recent trip to Ireland, some of our favorite parts weren’t seeing the “famous” places but instead slowing down in the small towns… sharing conversations, going on quiet walks, and appreciating the small, meaningful moments.
Nestled between the mountains of Kerry and the calm waters of Kenmare Bay, the town stole our hearts. With brightly painted shopfronts, flower-filled streets, and welcoming pubs where traditional Irish music drifts into the evening air, it feels less like a destination to rush through and more like a place to savor.
Walking through the streets at 9pm on a summer weekday, we were shocked to see the locals sitting outside the pubs, chatting and enjoying the evening. This town has the absolute best vibes and the joy was contagious.
When visiting County Kerry in Ireland, you must put this town on your list to visit. This is…
📍 Kenmare

standing at where one of the world’s most famous farewells took place 🥺🚢

This town was once known as Queenstown, which was the Titanic’s final port of call before beginning its journey across the Atlantic on April 11, 1912.
At this exact place, 123 passengers boarded the Titanic, while their loved ones gathered to send them off on their journey and say goodbye. For most of those passengers, it would be the last time they ever saw Ireland.
Just three days after leaving the port, during the night of April 14, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sunk.
Today, standing here at the remnants of Titanic Pier, you can look across the same harbor where those final farewells were exchanged. It’s a deeply emotional experience knowing that what began as a dream come true for so many ended in such tragedy.
You can see the remnants of the original pier by going to the restaurant behind the Titanic Experience. Highly recommend a stop here in Cobh on your trip to Ireland!

Some travel advice. I’m not saying I have heard people saying these things. I’m saying you definitely should not say anything resembling that stuff.

Can you visit Ireland without a car? Absolutely! 🇮🇪
Dublin, Galway, Cork and Killarney are all great bases for exploring Ireland without getting behind the wheel.
The trick is not trying to squeeze the entire island into one trip. Pick a few places, use trains and buses to get between them, and book day tours for the spots that are harder to reach.
You might miss a few hidden gems along the way, but you can still have an incredible Irish adventure. ☘️
