What's a "Slate" and What Does it Do? 🎬🤔
In this video, I aim to explain in layman's terms what a "film slate" is, why it is a vital tool for filmmaking, and how it is actually used! You will learn a bit of what a 2nd Assistant Cameraperson does on a set, as well as how audio is captured for films. There is a also a brief demo of a basic video editing technique in Adobe Premiere Pro! Please let me know if you have any questions, or if I missed anything I ought to have included here. Hope you enjoy! 🩷☺️🎥
Please note, the information in this explainer is based on United States filmmaking conventions, and the processes may vary from set to set. I've heard in other countries, grips are responsible for slating! How do they do it in your neck of the woods? :)

Plus, the Audio spike gives a good IR of the room which will come in handy later to match foley with the right reverb contingent. So, the sound person will forever be grateful if the AC waits a few seconds after shutting the slate until the reverb has ceased 🙏

@kath.artic I sincerely appreciate this - I believe I have a duty to make my content accessible to all ages and put a focus on fun over attention-grabbing, to that point. :)
