So, Mr. Lou was telling me how, about sixty years ago, there were only paddy fields in front of that road, dotted with the occasional little shack. We somehow wandered into a conversation about the Assam-type houses that are slowly disappearing, and laughed at the rather tragic collection of characterless concrete boxes that have taken their place across most of the city.

Later, his son Chris, a good friend, played Don’t think twice, it’s alright, one of my favourite songs of all times.

And I ended the night without crying, which, lately, feels almost like an achievement.

Although, if I’m being honest, I probably did. Just quietly enough for the music to take the blame
