France is putting 70,000 police officers on the streets this Halloween as authorities brace for another wave of anti-government riots following weeks of unrest.

Demonstrations over rising costs and President Emmanuel Macron's budget cuts have escalated into riots, looting and property damage, with retail losses now estimated at more than $1 billion.

Authorities are preparing for at least 150 planned gatherings nationwide, with concerns that some rioters could use Halloween masks to conceal their identities.
