Before the engagement is sealed, the family gardener is found dead on the manor steps, and his son Arthur claims the house itself killed him, just as it killed Lottie’s mother a decade earlier. As footsteps echo through empty halls and whispers crawl through the dark, Lottie begins digging into the secrets her father spent years burying. Bradbury Manor wants to preserve itself, and Lottie just might be the only way left.

Beneath the supernatural story, the novel explores inheritance, class, family obligation, grief, and the limited choices available to a young woman in the aftermath of the First World War.
