The statistics are sobering. According to the WHO, approximately 727,000 people died by suicide worldwide in 2021, with men accounting for the majority. In the United States alone, 38,977 men died by suicide in 2024. The male suicide rate was nearly four times that of women. Behind these numbers are people who may have spent years feeling misunderstood, emotionally isolated or afraid that vulnerability would change how others perceived them. Some are fighting battles with their body image, unresolved trauma, depression or the loneliness of feeling they have nobody to turn to. Being strong should never mean having to suffer in silence. Men deserve relationships where honesty is welcomed, friendships where difficult conversations are possible and spaces where asking for help does not feel like an admission of failure. To every man struggling quietly, your feelings are not a burden. You do not have to earn compassion through suffering, nor prove your worth through how much you can endure. You deserve tenderness, support and the freedom to be human. Follow @letstalk.mentalhealth ❤️ #mentalhealth #mensmentalhealth #endthestigma #depression #suicideprevention

My latest reporting for NPR (link in bio): Two Cuban men were deported from the U.S. to the Central African Republic, a country they have no ties to. Yasmany Moreno-De Armas and Aristides Fernandez-Garcia are among the 25,000 people the Trump administration says it has deported to countries other than their own, a process called third-country deportations. Cuba, his country of origin, would not accept De Armas because he had previously fled that country. Fernandez-Garcia did not have a deportation order when he was detained. Trump promised to deport the “worst of the worst.” But NPR found no criminal charges against either man in Florida, where they previously lived. Both men say they have no idea what their legal status is or what will happen next. Please listen, read and watch the full story at NPR.org.
