We know lying is wrong, but what if telling the truth puts someone's life in danger? Are there biblical exceptions to the rule? Frank looks at some challenging examples from Scripture and what they teach us about our responsibility to tell the truth.

Dear Emma,

My sweet girl.

We were both babies when we met. I knew from the day I picked up your aunt & drove to Pennsylvania to get you, that I was going to love you with everything I had. What I didn’t know, is that over the next 13 years, you would be my only constant. Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined or even wished for the unwavering love & companionship you would give me that would take me through so many chapters of my life…of our lives.

thank you for giving me something to show up for. thank you for never allowing me to forget what love feels like. it’s crazy to think just how much of the last 13 years it was just me & you.

thank you for saving me.

I know I already told you this, but I’m sorry I couldn’t show up the same way the last couple of years. I was literally doing everything I could to survive. But I hope you know that every choice I made, I always put you first even when it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I remember all the crazy looks I’ve gotten over the years when I would tell people I would literally run in front of a bus for you bc I couldn’t imagine living in a world without you in it. The look of, “Oh wow, she’s serious,” makes me laugh when I think about it. They clearly didn’t know what a special little soul you were. Anyone who did felt the same way.

I know in my heart, the only person who did, was your dad. So I put these pictures here for you to remind you how loved you were, you are, and you always will be. I have always said, in almost every beautiful memory I have with him, it was because of you.

He’s a really special part of your story & you were lucky to have him.

From being single & in my 20s, to moving & traveling all over the country, through marriage & divorce, through career highs & career lows, from the greatest joys & the deepest sorrows…you were always there.

Our 1st summer as solo gals

Saying goodbye to you is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. But in enduring a heartache I’ve never known, I find solace in knowing I can bear the pain & suffering so that way you would never have to.

You spent

Glin Castle Revisited

You know you’re getting older when you stumble upon memories you didn’t remember you had.

One such filing in the archives of the dusty library you could call my brain has to do with a few precious days spent at a castle in Ireland. I seem to remember a game of charades, there was also a murder mystery of some sorts. I think they asked me to teach some poor souls the art of photography. Good heavens. If memory serves the castle was surrounded by a kind of jungle, the wonderful hosts were utterly charming. It’s a bit of a blur. A wonderful blur.
I blame it all on the sloe gin concoction that chap called Sam kept pouring us (I’m sure I protested for as long as I could.) There was a woman with an unpronounceable name - Cliodhingraenisqalinga or something like that. And the other woman, Imen. Just lovely. And her equally lovely husband who picked us up from the airport repeating his mantra “Happy wife, happy life.” I wasn’t quite sold on that one. Still, whatever works.

Since we were in Scotland this summer, our daughter Gaia, the middle one, has been channeling a character called Mildred. Originally Scottish from Aberdeen, Mildred turned Irish when Gaia realised her talents were more consonant with the musicality of the Irish tongue. We haven’t seen much of Gaia since this summer but that’s alright, Mildred is a lovely girl and gets a lot of compliments.
To please Mildred my wife dragged out of a box a lovely Irish sweater, a gift from our stay at Glin. And with it came flowing a bunch of memories from that slice of a stay, where we stepped for a brief moment into another life. And from there it was easy, old hard drive, search “Glin” - Voilà

As for us, the Thorissons, and Mildred of course, we have already cast one eye towards the Emerald Isle (or is it Auld Sod) we have only visited once. There’s a trip on the horizon. There’s a Guinness in Dublin somewhere with my name on it.

If I’m not mistaken you can rent out Glin castle for events and celebrations ... or if you’re planning a murder mystery, or just getting drunk with some friends. It’s magic.
