Here I’m demonstrating how to join two large bowls together to create a large piece of a Totem.

I find the practice of rolling coils to be deeply relaxing and therapeutic. A few tips… squeeze the clay into a sausage shape before beginning the roll and when rolling use the whole hand . Don’t press too hard to begin. You will need to gauge when to slow down and when to speed up as the coil lengthens.

Coils aren’t as easy as one would imagine but they are an integral part of hand building and practice makes perfect.
I’ve also needed to speed up parts of the process so I can fit it into 90sec.

There are a myriad of things you can make by joining bowl shapes together.
Your imagination is your only limitation.
