This past week, I officially finished my internship with the Portsmouth Partnership at Bloom Coworking, and I don’t think I could have asked for a better experience.

Over the past eight weeks, I’ve gained valuable professional skills, made meaningful connections, and learned things I never imagined I would. Working alongside my coworker Jakobe Taylor, we had the opportunity to help increase engagement for Bloom Coworking’s social media, generating more than 6,000 views across multiple platforms.

One of my favorite parts of this experience was interviewing entrepreneurs, community leaders, and business owners in the Bloom community. We had the opportunity to hear their stories, learn how they got to where they are today, and understand the impact they’re making throughout Portsmouth and Hampton Roads. We interviewed incredible individuals including Hope Sinclair, CEO of Communities In Schools Hampton Roads; Lindsay Anderson of Vision Driven 757; Amber Koska, co-owner of The Stockpot and a business advisor with the SBDC; and others who continue to make a difference in our community. I also had the opportunity to network with leaders such as Councilwoman Kitty Bryant and Mark Hugel, which reminded me just how many people are working to make Portsmouth a better place.

And I can’t forget the amazing Bloom staff, Lauren, Michelle, Liz, Joy, and everyone else who welcomed me, supported me, and helped me to thrive.

This internship was truly a 10/10 experience, and I’m incredibly grateful for every lesson, connection, conversation, and opportunity that came with it.

This program is entering its third and final year, and I sincerely hope funding can be found to continue providing opportunities like this to future Portsmouth students. Programs like this don’t just give young people work experience, they give us connections, confidence, exposure.

Thank you to the Portsmouth Partnership, Bloom Coworking, and everyone who made this experience possible.

The internship may be over, but the connections, lessons, experiences, and impact will stay with me.
