Both myself and the builder boyfriend own 25 year old freestanding IKEA kitchen units. Yesterday we put them into the building site and made a house. He plumbed in the sink, we moved a second-hand fridge in. We put the camping sofa in there (the one he used to have in Australia 20 years ago, and we dismantle and take to camp each year), we put a rug on the new concrete floor and thought about where our plants will be happiest. It’s still a long way off. So much to manage before it’s reality. But I can’t tell you how incredibly wonderful it was to sit there, in the rain-pattering lamplight, and imagine where our things will go. Not Needing New | The Joy of Enough
