08.02.26 was a pretty special day! 💙🤍❤️
I saw Les Misérables in concert with Lydia! I couldn’t have watched this masterpiece with anyone else! There is no one I would rather sob through a show with, and I feel so lucky to have a friend who loves and wants to talk about this show as much as I do!
I have felt so emotional since watching this show! I grew up listening to Les Mis so much that my mother even burned a CD so that we could listen to the songs in the car. When the 2012 Les Mis movie came out, I had it constantly on repeat. In fact, I even had a Les Mis themed birthday party when I turned 10. Looking back on that, it may not have been the smartest party idea based on the content matter of the musical, and when we showed the movie at my birthday, it was quickly cut down to less than an hour as we skipped through all the gory detail. However, it is still one of my favorite memories to this day, and I always smile thinking about it.
From that movie, I started to pay attention to who these performers were and how I wanted to be like them. Samantha Barks and Aaron Tveit were my first ever musical theatre role models!
Many of these performers have grown up into different roles. Just two examples is how Killian Donnelly plays Jean Valjean now and before that played Enjolras, Courfeyrac, and Combeferre, and Samantha Barks played Fantine on this tour, but I grew up watching her as Éponine. I think this is one of the reasons Les Mis is so successful. It resonates with so many different generations, and you can grow with the story. I feel as though I have grown up through this story too!
For this reason, the moment Samantha Barks stepped out on stage as Fantine, I just started crying. This was such a full circle moment for me!
I’ve just moved to NYC to pursue this musical theatre career, then got to see the show that cemented this dream of mine, and got to see one of the first performers I ever looked up to performing in it! Getting to experience this show as I move into the next big chapter of my life was a reminder of how happy I am and how far I’ve come from that little girl dreaming about pursuing this career and singing along to Les Misérables! 🇫🇷
