How to prime a canvas for oil painting :

Step 1 : clean the canvas with a damp cloth.
Step 2 : Mix gesso with some water and apply it on the canvas. (use more gesso and less water if the canvas is very uneven or not primed.)
Step 3: Wait for at least 2 hours after the gesso dries and use sandpaper to sand it down.
Step 4: Wipe with a damp cloth to remove excess flakes.
Step 5: Wait 24 hours before starting your painting
