The White House, which cut women’s-health research, withheld family-planning funds and laid off the CDC team behind its national pregnancy-risk monitoring system, today announced a new women’s-health initiative spearheaded by Melania Trump.

It has no specific funding attached.

At the signing, Trump handed Melania the pen and wondered aloud whether her signature meant anything.

The order creates a new women’s-health division at NIH and a White House task force led by Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. NIH already has an Office of Research on Women’s Health; the administration says the new division will have a broader role.

This is a thin promise from an administration that withheld Title X grant payments from 144 Planned Parenthood sites in 20 states, affecting clinics that provide contraception, STI testing and cancer screenings. NIH funded 31% fewer research projects in 2025 that included the word “women.”

What do you think this new effort will produce?
