Massive nationwide protests turned violent across France on Saturday, October 17, 2026, leading to the arrest of over 1,200 people and injuring at least 150 police personnel. An estimated 550,000 to 800,000 demonstrators took to the streets in major cities, including Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Lille, and Rennes.

• Paris: Riot police deployed heavy tear gas and water cannons at the Place de la République and Place de la Nation to push back crowds. Protesters draped the iconic Marianne statue in a yellow vest. Vehicles and buildings were set ablaze, and multiple shops were looted.

• Lyon: The city's main tourist office was deliberately set on fire. Emergency responders faced resistance from hostile groups while attempting to extinguish the flames.

• Marseille, Lille, & Limoges: Government and municipal properties became primary targets. Protesters breached and severely vandalized town halls in Lille and Marseille, while a massive fire broke out at the town hall in Limoges.

• Saint-Étienne: Severe casualties were reported on the ground, including a young demonstrator who lost their hand during a violent confrontation.

We cannot keep pretending that underfunding maternity care saves the UK money, because it simply
DOES NOT.

👀 £1.3 billion in medical negligence payouts

👀 £50,000+ per woman after a severe birth tear

👀 Burnt out midwives quitting, then the system needing to pay to recruit and train replacements!!!

It costs us SO much more in the long run.

And that’s what makes me (as an affected parent) so frustrated.

The cost to my family AND the system from my care has been truly profound.

So I wanted to talk about it - I’ve pulled together 5 examples of the hidden costs of underfunding maternity care, and
honestly, they’re rather shocking. 🫣

1: Not investing in mental health support during pregnancy and after birth.

2: Women not getting the care and support they need, when they need it.

3: Midwives being stretched too thin, with too few staff on shift.

4: Unsafe facilities that aren’t fit for purpose.

5: The enormous cost of negligence claims when things go wrong.

These are the consequences of not investing properly in maternity care. And this is only the
beginning of the conversation.

We cannot keep treating maternity care as though it’s an area where we can afford to cut
corners. It should be a basic right to give birth in a safe environment, with the right support,
properly staffed wards and care that meets her needs - not a luxury.

If you feel brave enough please share the cost to your family below...

تصاویر منتشر شده در رسانه های اجتماعی، شماری از معترضان را در حال حمله با سنگ به خودروی پلیس در پاریس پایتخت فرانسه نشان می دهد.

Three trans women have still not been released from CP police station. Even though the law requires women to be released at the latest by 6 pm.

We condemn this horrifc breach of fundamental rights.

RELEASE THEM !!!!!

Eternal Sky 𓂃 ོ☼ Introducing @nuulee.nyc x @friendswithanimals.online a cashmere collection, launching online November 9th. 🤍

My heart is bursting at the seams with so much love for this project, getting to design a collection in cashmere has been a dream come true alongside traveling to Mongolia. Witness the way the herders live in tandem with their animals in such harmony, and seeing the deep connection between them and the land is something I’ll carry with me forever. The animals played such a special role in this campaign, becoming a beautiful part of the story we wanted to tell.

So much love, so many memories, and a little piece of Mongolia woven into every thread. Forever grateful for this journey. ☼
