![✨📚 Book Review 📚✨
I adored Sweet Sweet Ninety Seven by @catherinesummersauthor
I read it following a couple of emotionally draining books and it proved to be the uplifting palate cleanser I didn’t know I needed!
It follows Ellie who, in 2022, soon after discovering her husband of twenty five years has been having an affair, wakes up in 1997 in her 25 year old body and the opportunity to relive that time of her life. This time around, with the benefit of hindsight and life experience, she has to decide whether or not to do things differently.
The time-slip is very cleverly done with a great attention to detail. I moved to London in 1997, at Ellie’s age, so it was like a trip down memory lane. Reading this book I was flooded by so many waves of nostalgia it was actually really emotional. Who else remembers having to take a copy of the London A-Z Guide with them at all times, The Body Shop White Musk perfume, CK One, where you were when Princess Diana died, renting a video from Blockbuster, the BBC News on at Nine O’Clock - the list could go on and on!
Ellie in 2022 was equally relatable with her achy joints and perimenopauseal struggles!
As well as all the nostalgia there is a particularly touching chapter when Ellie gets to spend time with her parents, there is a sweet ‘will they won’t they’ romance at the centre of the story and there is plenty of humour throughout. I loved the way Ellie appreciated the small things in life the second time around - it was definitely a reminder to try and do the same thing.
Thank you so much Catherine for having me on your ARC team and for giving me the opportunity to read your debut novel ahead of publication - it was a book I didn’t want to put down!
Sweet Sweet Ninety Seven is published on 7th November.
