save this for your next flagstaff trip🌲
walnut canyon national monument is a great sport to learn more about arizonas history & it’s only about 7.5 miles east of downtown flagstaff!
the sinagua people lived in these cliff dwellings nearly 900 years ago, adapting their homes to the canyon walls and surrounding environment.
here’s what to know before you go👇
📍3 Walnut Canyon Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86004
🎟️ $25 per private vehicle (accepts america the beautiful pass)
💳 the park is cashless for entrance fees
⏰ ppen daily 9 am - 5 pm (but the island trail closes at 4 pm, so plan accordingly!)
🐶 dog friendly, but with restrictions! leashed dogs are allowed on the rim trail and in the parking lot. dogs are not allowed on the island trail or inside the visitor center. keep pups leashed and watch their paws during hot weather.
♻️ as you explore, please don’t touch, climb on, or lean against the ruins. these structures have survived for centuries and every bit of preservation matters.
🥾we hiked the island trial which is 0.9 miles & takes you down into the canyon to see the ancient cliff dwellings, but be prepared for a LOT of stairs & bring water with you!
& before you leave, stop by the visitor center/gift shop and get your national parks passport stamped! 📖
