Inside Jordan Casteel’s (@jordanmcasteel) studio is a blossom of artworks. She compares this variety of works to landscape painting. While it may not be a conventional outdoor nature scene, it is very much the landscape of her life. This week, Jordan opens her first exhibition in France at Thaddaeus Ropac (@thaddaeusropac). These new paintings follow the birth of her son. Portraits from her ongoing “Subway Series” sit alongside self-portraits with her newborn and flowers painted from her Hudson Valley garden. She shares her enthusiasm for the vibrancy of colors found in the natural world, inspiration pulled straight from her backyard. Each canvas then built around one of these many pops of colors. Across portraits and still lifes, she treats painting, mothering, and gardening as related forms of care, and gives a cut bouquet the same attention as a family on a train. During a busy week like Paris Art Week, she also provides you a quieter, more tender landscape in which to escape. OPENING: Monday, Oct 19 (6-8pm) Jordan Casteel: Winter Sun Oct 19–Dec 23, 2026 Thaddaeus Ropac Paris 🇫🇷
