I mostly don't know why I make the decisions I do when creating art. I've many leaves to choose from, but chose to add these Gingko Biloba prints* to this piece (the second of the hare paintings).
It is often after finishing the work that I reflect on why I made certain choices and make interpretations based on feeling and perhaps a little research.
Ginkgo leaves are beautiful, delicate shapes, but I have always been drawn to the Ginkgo Tree, ever since knowing it went back to the dinosaur age. This sense of connection to deep time, almost timelessness, is one that I like to work with.
The Gingko Biloba has been threatened by pollution and changes to landscape, but this last living species of the order Ginkgoales, still stands.
How do you feel that Gingko Biloba relates to the Hare? I'd be interested to know your thoughts. I may write more on this later.
*The leaf prints were made with acrylic paint and gouache, using a gel plate and real ginkgo leaves for the process.
