Mini reviews of recent reads!! 📝 A few really great ones, some good, and one ultra womp womp (I’m so sorry but Fear the Flames did not live up to the hype ☹️

📖 When the Moon Hatched was such a weapon of a book at over 700 pages that I think it deserves a proper review.

I’m glad I put this off until I was in the right headspace for this type of book, because I know I would have DNFed it at another time. This may just be a me thing, but I needed the glossary for the entire book, and I’m normally fine with a casual read-through. This world had so many creatures, places, people, even passages of time, that it was hard to keep it all straight. This took me out of the world a bit. If you’re not interested in a deeper world-building, I would suggest skipping this one.

I also have to say that the FMC could solve most of her issues if she just stopped running away from everything. There is this kind of complicated interior life that she has - I can’t really explain it without giving away any spoilers - but it’s a bit hard to wrap your head around, and when you finally do get it, it’s kind of like… girl. What are you doing 😒

There was also so many descriptions of how something felt inside the body (I.e.: heart, lungs, etc) and I’m really not into that kind of writing.

All of that being said, the book was full of action, twists, and a pretty interesting world. After 700 pages, I wish I knew more about the actual geographic locations and their political relationships to one another, but I have a feeling we’re going to get way more into that in book 2. I was also interested in every character’s motivation, which will definitely make me pick up the sequel.

Overall, I have mixed feelings, but I am intrigued enough to keep reading!

💭 have you read any of these books, and do our ratings match?
