2 months agoWhile also releasing rules to PLAY AS MIND FLAYERS. PLAYABLE MIND FLAYERS ARE SLAVERY AS TOYS.
2 months agoJust call it slavery. It's a word, and it's a thing in the world, it's a descriptor. This is such a weird thing to not use the correct term for. But I might be too European to understand.
2 months agoAre they trying to say that slavery does not and cannot exist in the setting? The whole thing is so silly. Its like you're trying to eliminate the concept metaphysically, as if reality would not allow slavery to exist. If you personally aren't ok with slavery in your game just ask your table not to include it. What is it that people would do with it that's so heinous? If you're the type of pathetic nerd wanting to role-play slavery in a controversial way privately gor self satisfaction you'll do it homebrew style anyways or judt in your mind - these are all games of make belief anyways. I find it baffling thay grown adults are so horrified by the prospect of dark themes being included in an explicitly dark setting that they'd rather demand them be ontologically eliminated, alongside any interesting challenge or story telling or world building relatd to it. Why not go ahead and eliminate murder as well, since that's immoral? Fantasy table top players are generally quite emotionally under developed and struggle to deal with uncomfortable themes and I'm so sick of the scene.
2 months agoHaving and abusing slaves is something the villains and antagonists do. Escaping slavery, freeing slaves, tearing those institutions is what the heroes do. It would be like me making a Star Wars game but saying “no one gets Force choked”
2 months agoWtf is wrong with telling stories about slavery? We all know its bad, and if some group of weirdos meet up for slavery simulator where no ones looking who cares? But we know thats not the problem, because the setting STILL HAS SLAVERY theyre just too cowardly to say it.
2 months agoI don't understand this take. Slavery is a bad thing, it being in the world, means that we can fight it. It's the OPPOSITE of glorifying it. And, who cares if someone at their table "misuses" it? What makes slavery worse, than killing people at sword point? We are using death as a TOY, as you say. Is death ok and slavery not? Why. If i had to choose i would prefer not death really.
2 months agoEhh, this just seems like more cowardly behavior that strips the world of details like when they stopped adding all the flavor text on races so new players had nothing to base their character on which actually makes people less creative, not more free. They didn’t want slavery because they didn’t want Twitter to be upset, not because it would make a better experience.
2 months agoNot every setting needs to be for every table. Content warning exist for a reason. Also forced conscription is just slavery under a different name. The removal of slavery (the word) just feels performative especially in a setting with genocide, cannibalism and mages who have pretty much killed the planet in search of power.
