Nicknamed the “zen monkey” online, douc langurs are known for their unusually expressive faces, with soft eyes and distinct facial markings that can give them an almost human-like appearance.

Native to Southeast Asia, doucs are highly social, tree-dwelling primates that spend much of their lives in the forest canopy. Research on douc ecology and behavior has documented their complex social organization and specialized, leaf-heavy diets.

Their bodies are adapted to processing leaves and other plant material, making healthy forests especially important to their survival. Their striking appearance has also earned doucs a reputation as some of the most colorful and visually distinctive primates in the world.
