Three dials. Only one of them is still doing the job BMW gave it.

The fuel gauge became state of charge. The rev counter became a power meter, and past zero it reads charge in kW, because the same needle swings the other way when the car is sending energy back to the battery. The speedometer in the middle is untouched. Still in km.

We did not replace the instruments. We redrew them on the original dials, so they look like they were always there.

There is no screen in this car. Nothing glued to the dash, nothing to update, nothing that will look old in five years. The windows still roll down by hand.

The battery is the easy part. The work is in the 500 hours that go into making sure you cannot tell where the old car ends and the new one begins.

2002te. Hand built in Munich.

If i ever see the sad day where I'm legally forced to get an electric car and double my carbon footprint. I'll get a Bavarian ecos. Perhaps they can do a rhd e34 wagon.
