We celebrated our traditional betrothal ceremony (過大禮) recently, and my heart is so full ❤️💍🧧 Guo Da Li is a traditional Chinese wedding custom, typically held 1–3 months before the wedding day, ahead of the legal marriage registration or wedding ceremony, to formally mark the couple’s commitment and bring blessings to their new chapter together. The groom’s family presents gifts to the bride’s family as a symbol of sincerity, blessings, prosperity, and respect. Traditionally, the groom arrives at the bride’s home and seeks her family’s blessing and permission before proceeding with the wedding customs. Once permission is granted, the groom is welcomed into the bride’s home, where the families exchange blessings and carry out traditional wedding rituals to celebrate the couple’s union. The betrothal gifts are symbolic, representing blessings of prosperity, abundance, fertility, and good fortune for the couple’s future together. The bride’s family returns part of the gifts, symbolising shared blessings and prosperity between both families. I’m so grateful my oldest sister was there for me and preparing everything, the decorations, all the details in the house and how much time and efforts she had put into this. As happy as I am, the moment also feels a little bittersweet. 🥺❤️ I can’t help but wish my dad were here to witness this special milestone. My mum and my other sister are also living so far away in the United States, and I truly wish we could all have been together that day. I’m also so grateful to have someone who respects and honours such an important part of my identity❤️ and very soon, we are going to enter a new stage of our life 💒💍 📸 by @moriwangphotospace Mori is so talented!
