Could your tight neck muscles be contributing to a puffy face, double chin, and more noticeable wrinkles? 👀 Meet your sternocleidomastoid (SCM) the muscle that runs along each side of your neck, from behind your ear down to your collarbone and sternum. Your SCM plays an important role in head movement and posture, but when it becomes chronically tight, it may contribute to more than just neck discomfort! Here’s why 👇 💧 Facial puffiness & fluid retention: Your neck contains important lymphatic vessels that help drain fluid from your face and head. Tight muscles and poor posture may influence how these tissues move, although we don’t have strong evidence that SCM tightness directly blocks lymph drainage. 💧 Double chin & rounded face: Forward head posture can change the appearance of your jawline and neck, making fullness under your chin more noticeable. Actual fluid retention can also contribute to facial fullness. 💧 Wrinkles & skin creases: Constantly looking down or holding your head forward can accentuate neck folds and skin creases over time.. 💧 Neck tension & headaches: Tight SCM muscles can contribute to restricted neck movement and referred discomfort in the head and face. So what can you do? ✨ Stretch your SCM: Try this gentle release on each side, 1–2 times daily (60 sec each side), especially if you spend a lot of time looking down at your phone or computer. ✨ Work on your posture: Bring your screen to eye level, keep your shoulders relaxed, and practice gently bringing your head back over your shoulders instead of letting it drift forward. ✨ Take movement breaks: Every 30–60 minutes, change positions, move your shoulders, and gently turn your head from side to side. ✨ Support lymphatic drainage: Gentle neck movement, diaphragmatic breathing, and your regular lymphatic drainage routine can help support normal fluid movement. Remember: Stretching your neck is only part of the equation, you also need to address posture. Check out my last video on posture 😉 #lymphdrainage #puffyface #scm #lymphaticsystem

🎁 Win a pair of @scarpa_uk Crux 2 approach shoes 🏆 The Scarpa Crux is a longstanding favourite amongst staff at UKC. Back in 2015 it won Best in Test in our Approach Shoe Group Test and in the intervening 11 years, in spite of a great many other models being released, it has retained its popularity and status. The Crux 2 succeeds in modernising the original - and improving upon it - whilst retaining the same core identity. In short: if you liked the original, you’ll love this. If you had reservations, then the refinements might make its successor more relevant. We have a male or female pair to give away. For your chance to win a pair you must: • FOLLOW both @scarpa_uk and @ukclimbing • SHARE this post to your Story (please tag @ukclimbing so we don’t miss it) • LIKE and SAVE this post • For an extra entry, TAG your climbing partner in a COMMENT • UK shipping only • Competition closes at 1800 on Tuesday 20th October, and winners will be contacted by Direct Message. • This competition is not affiliated to, or governed by Instagram.
