We call these kuçundra.
Dialectal Albanian is so rich, full of words that never made their way into the standard language of 1972. Kuçundra is one of those words: a little handmade rag doll.
Every time I see one, I think of my grandmother. She used to make kuçundra for us to keep us entertained - using a cypress cone for the head, a few sticks for the body, and scraps of old cloth to dress them. They were such simple little things, made in a few moments from whatever happened to be around, but we loved them.
I love how a word like kuçundra can hold so much more than its meaning. It holds the memory of my grandmother making something so simple feel special. 💛
Also fun fact: when I was little, I wanted to be an astronaut🚀 I’ve always been fascinated by the planets and the stars
