Around 5 years ago I was asked something that kind of shook me. In our humanness we are taught to answer questions religiously even if it is a lie. For example, "How are you?" The human answer is, "I'm good and you?"
The whole time we are battling internally. Why do we do that? Why aren't we honest when people ask us certain questions?
5 years ago I was asked if I loved myself. Before answering I sat and thought about it. Human response would have been yes, but I was sitting in a session with my life coach at the time, now my God Mom 🥰❤️
The truth was I didn't and my decisions were evident of that. I sacrificed myself to please others. I didn't speak up when I should. I chose to believe lies when I knew the truth. I made the decision to accept people and things I had no business accepting. None of that was proof of me loving myself. I didn't even think I deserved good things.
If I don't love myself what would "loving my neighbor as I love myself" look like? How can we love our neighbors when we don't love ourselves?
I see a lot of people who scream how confident they are and love how they look. They say they love who they are, but they make decisions that counter the love, life, and peace they desire.
The WORD also tells us what love is.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
[4] Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. [5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. [7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Do we really understand what love looks like? It's a choice. To choose being patient over getting upset and frustrated. To choose to not hold over someone's head how they wronged me. It is choosing to be kind instead of making someone feel bad. It is having boundaries for myself and others and being held accountable. Being honest and trustworthy.
We have to learn how to love ourselves truly so we can love others. There are a lot of people out there who do not receive love and they are harming themselves and others.
When we choose GOD we choose LOVE.
