For the past two years, my practice has been focusing on the condition of the individual within increasingly volatile economic systems and broader social realities. ‘God of New Angle’ marks the entry point to this ongoing series. As both totem and mascot, it reveals much about one’s cultural background.

Alongside the overtly optimistic greeting ‘wishing you prosperity,’ Chinese culture holds an alternative, almost cynical view: that money is as insignificant as dirt. I flipped the coin, yet awkwardly lodged it in the toad‘s mouth—an impasse.

The world hovers at a point of tension, and no one can determine how the toad choose to hold the coin.
