For years I've looked at this picture taken on Tidore Island looking across to Ternate Island wondering what storms this fragile looking little jetty has seen and how long it has stood. Im kind of glad I will never know - the secrets run deep in the spice islands. The Portugese Fort on the hill behind was aimed at the Dutch Fort on Ternate Island - has this little bridge seen pirates and the death of the spice trade? Isn't it nice to know there are still parts of this earth less travelled :) #spices #ternate #exploreindonesia #jetty #historyinpictures

India’s air pollution crisis has reached alarming levels, with all top 25 cities in real-time global pollution rankings belonging to India. The November 4 data shows Rajasthan’s Bikaner topping the list with a staggering Air Quality Index (AQI) of 732, followed by Sonipat in Haryana at 668 and Rohtak at 654. All 25 cities were classified under the ‘Hazardous’ category. The crisis extends far beyond Delhi-NCR. Ghaziabad recorded an AQI of 560, Greater Noida 553, Hisar 552 and Moradabad 551, while New Delhi stood at 546. Noida registered 519, and cities including Bhiwani, Bulandshahr, Bathinda, Meerut and Aligarh also featured among the world’s 25 worst in the snapshot. The figures reveal an alarming concentration of pollution across Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Delhi. The readings are particularly concerning because an AQI above 300 is already considered hazardous under the US system. Several northern Indian cities have crossed 500, entering levels beyond the standard AQI scale. However, the rankings are live and can change throughout the day. Meanwhile, Delhi’s official Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) AQI climbed to 373 on Wednesday morning, with 21 monitoring stations recording readings above 400. The figures differ from those on AQI.in because the platforms use different methodologies and reporting periods. Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is already in force across Delhi-NCR, bringing tighter pollution-control measures. Experts attribute the worsening conditions to a combination of vehicular emissions, industrial pollution, construction dust, crop-residue burning and unfavourable weather. Falling temperatures and weak winds are trapping pollutants closer to the ground, turning large parts of northern India into a vast pollution hotspot. The health implications are serious. Fine particulate matter, known as PM2.5, can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, increasing the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
