It's been clear from the Prime Minister and the senior trade team that the deal we had on Wednesday and Thursday, wasn't the deal we had on Friday - and that ultimately unravelled the negotiations. Today, the announcement of counter measures and business supports is part of the picture that keeps our economy competitive amidst that backdrop of tariff chaos, and provides at least some certainty for businesses. The Prime Minister has the grace and groundswell of Canadian support because we're negotiating not just in good faith, but with no intention of taking a bad deal.
The next questions we face is how long will the pain last? How long until we get back to the negotiation table? And is there a domestic shift in the United States that brings about a better deal.
