I’ve spent months trying to find the right words to say when this moment came. There truly are no words that could possibly describe how wonderful you were.
There are so many things I will spend the rest of my life grieving, things I will never get from you again. No one ever made me laugh like you. Just one glance from across the room and I was fighting peeing my pants. You had a laugh that just made everyone laugh with you- no matter how inappropriate the joke was. You and I were known for laughing at all the wrong times.
I’ll miss calling you every time I need advice or a friend. I remember calling you in the coldest days of winter just this past year when I was walking in the snow to get my packages because some dummy delivered them to the wrong dorm. I remember just last summer when we talked for two hours on the phone while my car got an oil change. We talked about how shitty I am at saving money, and you bailed me out once again because you’ve saved money for me since I was a baby. Investing, coin collecting, MGNE, all things that will forever come along with the name Gary Dobbs.
I loved swimming because you were there. Some of my best memories were from soaking in the pool with you until all of our skin was completely shriveled and grandma told us we were nuts for how long we had been out there. You always tried to make me touch whatever ended up in the skimmer for money, and when I finally worked up the courage, you’d make some goofy noise just to scare me. I’ll miss opening and closing that pool, even though I hated it and wasn’t much help. All the times you’d be picking pears from your trees and throw them in the pool to startle me, just the kind of funny you were 😆
I will miss river rafting with you, and struggling to do it because of course we insisted on being partners, and I was the weakling, and you were the old man. I wish you could yell at me to push us off that damn rock just one more time. I loved getting to share the memories you had of the Wolf river, with the rest of my family just as you did.
I’ll miss our games of hot and cold when you’d hide money for me. I’ll miss every lecture you gave me that I’d heard a thousand times before,
