A couple of days ago marked two years since an event that was, to put it mildly, a pretty traumatic one.
I don’t really want to go into the details here. But I’ve come to feel that the important moments in our lives — even the difficult ones — deserve to be acknowledged in some way. Not necessarily by dwelling on them, but by marking the fact that we made it through.
So I wanted to mark this one with something that feels very much like me: music.
I recorded and filmed an acoustic version of one of my all-time favourite songs, Under the Milky Way by The Church, at Blue Room Studios.
Partly because I think it’s a beautiful song, but also because it carries such a strong memory for me of watching Donnie Darko. There’s something about that song in that film — misty, eerie, slightly sinister, yet somehow incredibly warm and comforting at the same time.
It felt like the right song for this particular moment.
I hope you enjoy it.
The full-resolution version is also up on YouTube if you’d like to watch the whole performance.
And thank you so much for all the kind messages and warm embraces over the last 24 hours. I genuinely feel very grateful to have so many wonderful people in my life, near and far.
Here’s to life.
