Sometimes the body is no longer injured, but it is still protecting.
After an accident, someone can be structurally healthy while their nervous system continues to hold patterns of bracing and protection. The danger has passed, but the body may not yet have found its way back to ease.
During a recent visit, as a patient’s body began to soften, something deeper softened too. She was able to talk about how frightening her accident had been. Tears came. Tension released. By the end of the visit, her body felt more at ease than it had in years.
She had not consciously realized she was still carrying that experience.
This is not about forcing an emotional release or simply providing routine chiropractic maintenance. It is about listening to what the body is communicating and tending to the physical body and the nervous system at the same time.
Healing is not always about correcting something structurally wrong. Sometimes it is helping the body recognize that it no longer has to protect itself in the same way.
I am deeply grateful to do this work and to witness what can become possible when a body feels safe enough to soften.
