Trump is once again furious about not winning the Nobel Peace Prize. This year, the award went to Navi Pillay, the South African-born jurist and former U.N. human rights chief, honored for her work on international law, justice, war crimes, and human rights. Trump responded by attacking the Nobel Committee and Pillay herself, saying he knew “nothing about this woman,” claiming “no one ever heard of her,” and insisting he deserved the prize for supposedly settling multiple wars. Pillay also joked that if people clapped a little more, she might share the prize with Trump, which only made the whole thing more brutal. For a president who has openly obsessed over the Nobel for years, losing it to someone whose career is built around international justice was already a perfect contrast. The meltdown just made it clearer: Trump doesn’t seem mad that peace wasn’t recognized. He seems mad that he wasn’t.
