Dear
@fridagrundel,
We had never met. We had never rehearsed together. Until two days after that night, I did not even know your name!
Your wonderful Romeo & Julia Choir kindly surprised me and invited me onto the stage in Stockholm to join you and sing a song that has had a special place in my heart for many years: Soltane Ghalbha, The King of Hearts.
Somehow, I found the courage to join you, and for a few minutes, music became our common language. It connected us and everyone in that room. But what neither of us could have known that night was how far beyond that room this moment would travel.
Many of my compatriots wrote to me to say that they watched it with tears in their eyes. They heard in this old and beloved Persian song something deeply personal: memories, longing, love, and thoughts of Iran and its people.
Perhaps that is one of the extraordinary powers of art. We do not need to share a language, a nationality, or even know each other. Music can create a connection before words ever do.
Thank you, Frida. Thank you to the Romeo & Julia Choir, and to everyone behind this beautiful surprise, for creating one of the most unexpected and unforgettable moments of that very special night.
We met through a song. And somehow, thousands of kilometres away, millions of hearts joined us. ❤️🎶
