“What do you do with the scrap paper?”
Honestly? Sometimes I just play.
These dancing figures started with paper waste, which I transformed into a paper pulp painting, and somewhere along the way, I decided to make them dance.
The painting is still a work in progress, but I love those moments when I stop thinking about what the artwork should become and simply start playing with the possibilities.
These figures are inspired by Indian classical dance, and they already had so much movement in them. So I thought, why not bring that movement to life?
And that’s how this little stop motion happened.
This is one of the things I love about working with paper. Something that was once considered waste can become pulp, then a painting, and then, with a little imagination, something completely unexpected.
From paper waste to paper pulp painting to a little stop motion.
For me, exploring paper isn’t always about knowing exactly where I’m going. Sometimes it’s about following a little curiosity, having fun with the work and seeing where it takes me.
And this time, it took me dancing.
