A series of viral posts has brought sexual misconduct concerns at Spelman and Morehouse into the spotlight. At least one woman says she was sexually assaulted and has publicly named people. Online rumors also allege that other women were assaulted by Morehouse students; those claims have not been independently confirmed. Spelman College, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine issued a joint statement: “Our institutions stand together in our commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive environment across the entire Atlanta University Center. We take all concerns regarding sexual harassment and misconduct seriously, and we remain dedicated to the safety and well-being of every student.” The universities went on to share campus-specific reporting avenues, counseling services and 24/7 confidential crisis support. So far, Atlanta Black Star has not been made aware of any charges filed in connection with the allegations. More update to come. What concrete steps should the schools take? Share your thoughts in the comments. #SpelmanCollege #MorehouseCollege #HBCUNews
