LPU PROTEST: JUSTICE OR MOB ANARCHY?

What started with allegations of a sexual assault at Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara quickly escalated into vandalism, arson, clashes with police and a highway blockade.

Students alleged that a female student had been sexually assaulted in Girls' Hostel 3 by an outside worker. But as of now, the allegation remains under investigation. LPU has denied the claims and called them false and baseless, while Punjab Police has registered an FIR against an unknown person and formed an SIT to investigate. CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined

Can an unverified allegation justify destroying university property, damaging vehicles, setting things on fire and blocking a national highway?

The protests escalated into clashes with police, stone-pelting and property damage. The highway was blocked for more than 15 hours, and LPU has now suspended regular classes for 10 days and postponed mid-term examinations.

Reports say parts of the LPU campus and its mall were damaged, vehicles were vandalised, and police personnel were injured during clashes. The university has now suspended classes for 10 days and postponed mid-term examinations.
