If their children could see how their fathers work every day, perhaps they really would study even harder.
This video was filmed at the construction site of a large steel space-frame coal shed roof. Tens of meters above the ground, workers are assembling the space frame piece by piece—individual members and nodes gradually becoming a complete long-span steel roof structure in their hands.
Behind every worker standing high above the ground is a family.
But I imagine their children, wives, and parents may never see what you‘re seeing in this video.
Because when they talk to their families, what they usually say is:
To their children: “Buy it. Dad has money.”
To their wives: “It’s not hard. I love you.”
To their parents: “Don‘t worry. Your son is doing well.”
The height, the blazing sun, the cold wind, and the exhaustion hidden beneath their work clothes are things they rarely tell their families about.
On a large engineering project, they may be just some of the many workers on a steel construction site. But when they return home, they are fathers to their children, husbands to their wives, sons to their parents—and the pillars their families depend on.
As a steel structure manufacturer, of course I care about how this space-frame coal shed and long-span steel roof is ultimately built. But more deserving of attention than the structure itself are the people who install every member and every node with their own hands.
The building is magnificent, but the people holding it up are also holding up their families.
Respect to every frontline construction worker.
