Palestinian American activists and authors Alana Hadid and Jenan Matari have withdrawn their children’s book on Palestinian history from Penguin Random House over disputed edits to passages on the Nakba and the October 7 escalation, which they say misrepresented and sanitised their account.⁣

“Penguin was never actually going to allow us just to write the book we wanted to write,” said Hadid, the older sister of models Gigi and Bella Hadid, in an interview with US newspaper.⁣

their forthcoming book 'Displacement and the Palestinian American Story' will instead be published by Palestinian-owned Interlink Books in 2027. Penguin Random House said its editing followed standard procedures and that it supported the authors’ decision to withdraw.⁣
