Gavin Michaels attended a two-week intensive training program in New York City this summer, thanks to support from the College of Fine Arts’ Medici Circle.
Michaels is in his third and final year at the University of Arizona, earning a BFA in dance. He attended the Verdon Fosse Legacy Intensive Training Program taking daily technique classes and learning original Bob Fosse repertoire.
“Growing up, I had a lot of mentors who had performed Bob Fosse works throughout their careers, and I wanted to further my exposure to this style,” Michaels said.
“This immersive experience connected me to multi-generational dancers who worked with Bob Fosse themselves. Drawing from their expertise and experience was invaluable. I learned not only how to perform Fosse techniques but also made professional connections that I will carry with me.”
Medici Circle support allows talented artists like Michaels to extend their education and creative practice beyond the classroom through summer projects and programs.
“None of this would have been possible without the generous support of Wesley Green. Thank you for all that you have done for me and your continued support for the School of Dance!”
