🌹 A PERFECT ROSE: DOROTHY PARKER SONGS 🌹
A wonderful afternoon of music, wit, poetry, and theatrical imagination on Sunday, September 27.
Known for her caustic wit and often dismissed in her time as merely “flapper verse,” Dorothy Parker’s words have continued to inspire composers from the Jazz Age to the present.
This concert brought Parker’s poetry into a modern musical lens, featuring works by Danika Lorén and Ricky Ian Gordon, a theatrical gloss on one of Parker’s short stories, a new arrangement of her only jazz standard, I Wished on the Moon, and four brand-new Parker songs by Jeremy Beck.
🎶 Featuring
Paulina Swierczek & Kerrigan Bigelow, sopranos
Alec Manasse, clarinet
Nathaniel LaNasa, piano
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this celebration of one of America’s most distinctive literary voices. 🌹
