It’s just a game.

When distinguishing a great shop from a good one, several qualities come to mind. Perhaps the storefront is as beautiful as it is historic, with perfectly-aged signage alluding to a storied past. Once inside, you may find a hawk-eyed curation of many goods or many versions of a single good. And the shopkeeper, the glue to hold it all together, brings an irreplaceable sense of place and reason to stay just a moment more.

It’s this perfect recipe that designer @flynnclancy has spent the past decade chasing and documenting through her website @the_shopkeepers, an extensive directory of brick-and-mortars, guides by every shop type and region, and profiles on their keepers. Now, her newly released book ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Shops’ is a culmination of the thrills of the hunt and ode to the most distinct retail experiences across the world.

From a 237-year-old candle shop in Lisbon to a townhouse-turned-textiles-museum in Istanbul, @s.ky1i shares @the_shopkeepers’ 20 most beautiful shops in the world at the link in bio.

To the 5 men repeatedly misusing the UBS bicycle hub toilet at 9 Penang Road — your activities have NOT gone unnoticed.

I’m posting this to highlight what appears to be repeated misuse of the communal bicycle hub toilet at UBS, 9 Penang Road.

And this is NOT the first incident.

During my latest encounter, I walked into the toilet and caught two men in a compromising position, with one midway through unzipping the other’s trousers. The moment they noticed me, they immediately stopped and pretended nothing had happened.

After leaving to pack up my bicycle, I heard the toilet door being locked from inside.

When I subsequently wanted to return to wash up, I couldn’t get in because the door was locked. I approached FCC security for assistance, but by the time security arrived, the door had conveniently been unlocked.

There were FIVE men inside, all behaving as though they were simply using the toilet.

Four subsequently left but continued loitering around the bicycle hub. The fifth remained inside, seemingly keeping watch and waiting for an opportunity to signal the others to return.

The entire sequence appeared coordinated.

Here’s the thing: I’ve encountered something similar before.

On a previous occasion, the toilet was similarly locked from inside, preventing others from using it. When the door was finally opened, the entire toilet was filled with a strong smell resembling personal lubricant.

I cannot confirm exactly what was happening behind those locked doors, but taken together with what I personally witnessed during the latest incident, the recurring pattern is extremely suspicious.

To the individuals involved: Your behaviour has been noticed, and it is not as discreet as you might think.

What consenting adults do in private is their own business. However, a communal bicycle hub toilet is NOT your private playground.Commuters depend on these facilities to wash up, change and use the toilet. It is completely unacceptable for anyone to monopolise the facilities and lock legitimate users out.
