![Sharjeel Imam is often discussed through the lens of controversy, prosecution, and Shaheen Bagh. Far less attention is paid to the intellectual work that preceded the headlines.
His early political consciousness was shaped by his father’s attempts to consolidate marginalized Muslim votes. Witnessing his father's electoral struggles he thought about the structural limitations of the First Past the Post system regarding minority representation.
Enrolling at IIT Bombay in 2006 to study Computer Science, Imam's engagement with the humanities began contentiously.
worked as an engineer in Copenhagen.
Supported by his former professors, he abandoned his technical career to enroll in a modern history program at JNU in 2013. He sought answers to the structural political marginalization of Muslims, questions that philosophy could frame, but only rigorous historical research could empirically address.
