This is my sister and me at Books & Ballgowns in 2023. ⬅️ As you can see, we did not wear ballgowns 😉 She’s also been married to a woman for 12 years. Or as I like to call my sister-in-law, “Helicopter pilot police officer ✊🏻’, because I’m just so proud of her accomplishments. She’s the furthest thing from being weak. ⁣ ⁣ I thank my lucky stars every day that I didn’t marry a loser. Seriously, every day. I had no idea of my husband’s politics back in 2004, but I’m so glad I didn’t marry an insecure man who’s threatened by how others look, live, dress, or love. ⁣ ⁣ And while my father and I disagree on a lot of issues, he never encouraged me to fade. Or to be a decorative accessory to someone else. His advice, “I don’t care what you study. Just get the damn degree.” He knew that no one else, but me, should be tasked with my future security and welfare.”⁣ ⁣ My daughter was four when I started writing. My husband told me years later that he had to explain to her one night why I was so busy up in our bedroom, writing a book all the time. Especially when we had no expectations that it would turn into something. “Mommy needs to do this right now, and we need to let her work.”⁣ ⁣ He knew I had something calling me and my dreams were important too. ⁣ ⁣ I’m thankful to all the women who’ve encouraged me and taught me. And to my father who saw me as a person instead of a princess. And to my husband. I’m not sure what a “real man” is, as she refers to in this message about Tryst Six Venom, but I know I got a good one. ⁣ ⁣ And if you are the mother of a young son, I want you to know that your kid is good, smart, and worthy of every opportunity, same as anyone else. Feminism isn’t teaching women to hate men or that they’re better than men. It’s simply teaching women AND MEN that a woman shouldn’t have to shrink to make him feel bigger. Your son is going to come into contact with a lot of men in his life who don’t agree with that, and he’s going to be confronted with decisions in those moments. Will he go with the flow or be an advocate for those being mistreated?⁣ ⁣❤️ P.S. In my Stories today, I'll be celebrating women wearing and doing whatever the hell they want. 🔥
